Rivian owners puzzled about Tesla Supercharging Team layoffs

Rivian owners are puzzled by Tesla’s recent Supercharging Team layoffs and wonder how they will affect the rollout of NACS connectors.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly dismissed two senior executives recently, including the Senior Director of EV Charging, Rebecca Tinucci. The entire Supercharger team has also allegedly been laid off, amounting to 500 workers. One Tesla Supercharger employee shared on X that the entire charging team was let go, seemingly confirming the news.

“Confirmed— @Tesla @elonmusk has let our entire charging org go. What this means for the charging network, NACS, and all the exciting work we were doing across the industry, I don’t yet know. What a wild ride it has been,” posted Will Jameson on X, a former Tesla Supercharging team member.

Rivian R1T and R1S owners are puzzled by Elon Musk’s latest moves. Many Rivian R1 owners were happy to hear that Tesla Superchargers would be available to them, partly because the company’s charging stations are known to be reliable.

After hearing that Musk has let go of the entire team, Rivian owners worry that the Tesla Supercharger Network will decline. They wonder how Tesla can grow the Supercharger Network without Tinucci and her team.

“Can someone objectively explain if this will have any impact on their charging network or their ability to rollout and install chargers? If not, isn’t this just trimming fat? Similar to Rivian cutting out guides?” asked Hillbilly in a Rivian Forums.

“This isn’t trimming the fatthis is cutting your leg off to reduce your body mass. I’m not familiar with how Tesla operates the team, but with 500 people I have to presume the team was responsible for pushing each individual Supercharger location forward. Dealing with permitting and planning issues, site selection, working with local power companies on grid requirements, contracting out maintenance, etc,” replied Dark-Fx.

Rivian owners are not alone in their confusion. A few Tesla owners are also confused about Elon Musk’s decision to let go of the entire Supercharging team. The following days may shed some light on the Tesla CEO’s decision and the company’s next moves regarding its Supercharger Network.
