Rivian R2 & R3 visits Morgan County, Georgia
Rivian R2 and R3 traveled to Morgan County, Georgia, this week so locals could see the company’s future vehicles.
Citizens of Morgan County were able to explore the Rivian R2, R3, and R3X electric vehicles and meet with some of the company’s employees. Tony Sanger, Rivian’s Vice President of Production Facilities, was present during the event and answered some questions about Rivian's future in Georgia.
Sanger divulged that Rivian plans to produce the R2 and R3 vehicles in Georgia in the future. Rivian thought the showcase would help citizens familiarize themselves with the EVs the state would eventually help build.
The Vice President of Production Facilities explained that the R2 and R3 lineup differed from the R1 lineup because the latter was designed to hit the mass market. Meanwhile, the R1T and the R1S are premium vehicles, which raises their price points. Rivian R2 and R3 vehicles are made to be more affordable.
When asked how Georgians could benefit from the Rivain R2 and R3, Sanger replied:
“I think it’s two-fold. One is the jobs that we’re gonna create in the community here. You know, really good, nice, technical high-paying jobs that’s gonna be good for the local economy.
“And then it’s certainly an addressable vehicle that allows Georgia, you know you listen to the governor talk, he wants us to be the location for EV manufacturing. So it also needs to be the spot for EV usage.”
Sanger stamped out any concerns about Rivian’s delayed plans to build an EV factory in Georgia. He seemed confident that Rivian would continue constructing its Georgia plant after it ramped the R2 and R3 electric vehicles.
Rivian expects to start R2 deliveries by the first half of 2026. It will start initial production in Normal, Illinois, where the R1T and R1S are currently produced. The Rivian R2’s estimated starting price is around $45,000. Rivian R2 reservations are open.
The EV startup has not announced delivery dates for the R3 and R3X, but it is expected to start after Rivian’s R2 ramp.
