Rivian starts selling NACS adapter for $225
Rivian owners who wish to acquire a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter as soon as possible can now purchase the accessory from the company’s official Gear Shop for $225. The NACS adapter is reportedly also available in select service centers that offer Rivian Gear.
The NACS adapter is required for Rivian vehicles to access over 17,000 NACS-compatible Tesla Superchargers. Tesla’s Superchargers are hailed by EV owners as one of the most reliable and capable rapid-charging networks in North America. It was then no surprise that Rivian, together with other automakers, have committed to adopting NACS for their electric vehicles.
While the Rivian R2 and R3/R3X will be equipped with a native NACS charger, the R1T and R1S, which are available today, are still shipping with CCS charge ports. Rivian R1 vehicles with CCS charge ports need a NACS adapter to use Tesla’s NACS-compatible Superchargers.
Rivian has committed to providing its R1 owners with a free NACS adapter. The electric truck maker has even started including the NACS adapter with every Gen 2 R1T or R1S purchase. For some owners, however, the wait time for the accessory has proven long, resulting in some frustration.
Rivian’s $225 NACS adapter in the Gear Shop would then be a pretty good option for R1 owners who do not wish to experience an extended wait for their free accessory. As noted in a RivianTrackr report, Rivian will still be honoring its commitment to provide R1 owners with a free NACS adapter before the end of January 2025.
