Uber promotes Rivian R1S for premium ridesharing service

Uber has promoted the Rivian R1S as one of the latest vehicles in its premium service. As per Uber, the Rivian R1S will be made available to customers in Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas to start. 

“Get ready to ride electric – in style. Now, riders can experience the world's most innovative EVs on Uber. Try out the adventure-ready Rivian R1S in LA, Miami, and Dallas,” Uber wrote in its post on social media platform X. 

In later comments, Uber noted that the Rivian R1S would be an Uber Reserve product. This means that customers who wish to book the all-electric SUV should make a reservation four hours before their ride. The Rivian R1S would also be available only from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

While the Rivian R1S is made to be taken off-road and it is designed for the roughest terrains, Uber has noted that customers who book the all-electric SUV must only travel within city limits. That’s a fairly conservative ride distance limit, but it is quite understandable considering the premium nature of the R1S.

Based on social media posts from the electric vehicle community, it would appear that there are only a few Rivian R1S units available for booking for now. A user from Los Angeles, @JeffTutorials, for one, observed that the price for a Rivian R1S was reportedly slightly higher than an UberX. The wait time for the R1S was also extended.
