Rivian Confirms Over 100,000 R2 Reservations And Counting
Rivian is all about the community, and this was highlighted recently when the company held its Family and Friends Day on Sunday. The event saw about 6,000 attendees, and it also featured some notable updates in the company’s R2 program.
Rivian has been ramping its vehicle production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Seemingly as a way to boost employee morale, Rivian Vice President of Manufacturing Tim Fallon stated during the event that recent equipment upgrades have improved production rates by around 30%, as noted in a WGLT News report.
Fallon also highlighted that the company’s next vehicle, the Rivian R2, is seeing a lot of interest from consumers. The R2 is smaller and more affordable than the R1T and R1S, and it is expected to help Rivian become a legitimate mass market carmaker. As per Fallon, consumer interest in the R2 has been high, and it is still climbing.
“We’re well over a 100,000 pre-orders for R2, and those continue to climb — and they really climb organically. As we really push R1 and R1 gen 2 and continue to get our current product out there, the R2 continues to increase in pre-orders,” Fallon said.
The Rivian R2, with its classic SUV lines and attractive price point, immediately caught the attention the electric vehicle community when it was unveiled in early March. As per Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, the R2 saw over 68,000 reservations in less than 24 hours since it was unveiled. At the time, such a number represented 59% of the pre-orders that the R1T and R1S were able to gather over a four-year period.
“Overwhelmed by the wonderful response to our new vehicles: R2, R3 and R3X. In less than 24 hours, we’ve taken more than 68,000 R2 reservations. We are thrilled to see this vehicle resonate so strongly with our community!” Scaringe wrote in a post on social media platform X.
