Rivian owners report extension of Friends and Family discount to Gen 2 R1 vehicles
Recent posts from Rivian community members have indicated that the electric truck maker is extending its Friends & Family discount to Gen 2 R1 vehicles. Customers who wish to take advantage of the promotion are reportedly required to take delivery of their Gen 2 R1T or R1S by September 30, 2024, the end of the third quarter.
Reports of the extended program were shared by the Rivian community in owner groups such as RivianForums and in social media platforms such as X. In RivianForums, for example, user tonyty noted that the extension of the program could provide a discount of $2,500 for Gen 2 R1 vehicles. That’s some substantial savings considering the cost of the R1T and R1S today.
As observed by the RivianForums user, the extended program does not remove the company’s existing incentives for the Gen 1 R1T. Thus, while customers could get a discount of $2,500 for a Model Year 2025 Gen 2 R1T or R1S, they could also get a $6,000 discount on available Model Year 2023 and Model Year 2024 Gen 1 R1T vehicles with Large Pack battery.
As noted in a RivianTrackr report, Rivian employees are allocated 20 discount codes for Gen 1 and 20 discount codes for Gen 2 vehicles under the extended Friends & Family program. Employees who are able to refer customers to Rivian through the ongoing incentive would be receiving a $500 referral bonus from the company.
The extension of the Friends & Family program suggests that Rivian is determined to deliver as many vehicles as possible this quarter. This was hinted at as much by a number of RivianForums members, some of whom noted that they have seen vehicle orders that were placed this month get delivery dates in just a couple of weeks.
