Rivian adding Buzz Squeak Rattle (BSR) track to Normal plant's post production line
Recent photos shared on social media suggest that Rivian is adding a Buzz Squeak Rattle (BSR) test track to the Normal, Il plant's post-production line. The addition of the test track is expected to further improve the quality of Rivian’s R1 vehicles that are currently being delivered to customers.
Photos of the Normal plant’s new BSR test track were initially shared on LinkedIn by Concrete Strategies LLC, and subsequently posted on social media platforms such as X by @RivianUpdates. As could be seen from the images, several BSR test tracks are currently being installed at the facility, some of which are evidently designed to test how the R1T and R1S handle uneven and bumpy roads.
BSR test tracks are designed to simulate different road profiles and help automakers isolate the causes of unwanted noises in the cabin. This is something that Rivian is likely looking to improve on, considering the company’s recent vehicle noise-related initiatives. Just recently, for example, Rivian posted a technical service bulletin about excessive cabin noise from the R1T/R1S’ A/C unit.

Rivian’s technical service bulletin about the R1T and R1S’ excessive cabin noise is quite interesting because it is not a safety recall at all. Instead, it was an initiative directly aimed at improving the ownership experience of existing R1T and R1S owners.
While it is somewhat surprising to see Rivian building a BSR test track just now, its addition to the Normal plant’s post-production line is still a very welcome update. It does, if any, show that the company is more than willing to take any necessary steps to make sure that its vehicles are as refined as possible before they are delivered to customers. Rivian, after all, is a new automaker, so pretty much everything about its vehicles is under close scrutiny from EV fans and critics alike.
