Rivian launches certified pre-owned R1T/R1S program, complete with warranty
Rivian has launched an official certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle program for the R1T and R1S. The program is quite compelling as it provides consumers with a more affordable option to acquire a Rivian R1 unit.
As noted in a report from InsideEVs, Rivian's certified pre-owned vehicles are listed on the company's website, though the program is only available for ZIP codes in California and Illinois for now. This is understandable as these two states are currently Rivian's top markets, though expectations are high that the program will be expanding to other states in the near future.
Vehicles that are part of Rivian's certified pre-owned program feature second-hand R1T and R1S that are inspected by the electric truck maker for over 130 details. Every vehicle that is offered as a CPO unit is also road-tested before they are put on sale. CPO units purchased from Rivian's website receive a 4-year/60,000-mile comprehensive warranty and a 7-year/175,000-mile warranty for the battery pack and drivetrain as well.

A return policy is available for Rivian's CPO vehicles. As noted in a RivianTrackr report, any customer purchasing a certified pre-owned R1 unit automatically gets a 7-day or 500-mile window to return their second-hand R1T or R1S.

It should be noted that Rivian's CPO program has its quirks. The most notable is the fact that CPO vehicles cannot be leased at all. Thus, customers who wish to acquire a certified pre-owned R1 unit would have to pay in cash, or acquire their R1T/R1S through a financing plan.
