Rivian Update 2024.35.30 for Gen 1 R1 vehicles: What you need to know

Recent reports have emerged stating that Rivian is internally testing software update 2024.35 for both its Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1 vehicles. While the updates for both generations of vehicles are substantial, the updates that are poised to be released for Gen 2 R1T and R1S are a bit more robust. 

Citing information that is reportedly from Rivian, industry watcher RivianTrackr has noted that update 2024.35.30 should bring the following features to the Gen 2 R1T and R1S. 

Gear Guard Live Cam

This feature would allow drivers to view live footage from their Gen 2 R1 vehicles’ cameras through the Rivian mobile app. With this feature in place, drivers can immediately check on their vehicles’ surroundings. They could also immediately check on their cars if they receive a notification from the Gear Guard alarm system. 

It should be noted that Rivian’s Gear Guard Live Cam feature requires a Connect+ subscription. Drivers must also enable precise location sharing in the Rivian mobile app.  

Tri-Zone Climate 

This feature allows Gen 2 Rivian vehicles to customize the climate in the R1’s driver’s seat area, front passenger seat area, and rear passenger seat area. This effectively allows every occupant of Gen 2 R1T and R1S vehicles to tune their specific zone’s temperature to their specific liking. 

Enhanced Seat Belt Reminder for the Second and Third Rows

To comply with the latest Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) standards, Rivian has implemented a number ofimprovements to the seat belt reminder notification system of Gen 2 R1 vehicles.

With the new safety improvements in place, auditory and visual alerts would remind passengers in all seats to fasten their seat belts until every occupant is buckled in.

New Animations for Drive Mode Settings 

New animations would be introduced to help drivers better understand the changes made to their Gen 2 R1 vehicles’ Ride Height, Brake Regen, Stability, and Ride Feel settings. This feature should help rivers get more context on the current status of their vehicles.

Enhanced Dynamic Lighting 

With the update in place, Gen 2 R1 vehicles’ headlights would be capable of automatically adjusting depending on real-time road and vehicle conditions. Headlight beams will adjust dynamically and automatically to optimally light the road, regardless of ride height or road conditions as well. Headlights would also respond to changes in vehicles’ pitch and weight distribution so beam levels are always optimal.

Additional Improvements

  • For Model Year 2025 Dual Standard vehicles:
    • Improved range accuracy where the range may re-calibrate after a software update for affected vehicles.
    • The vehicle now more accurately detects when the battery is fully charged.
    • Improved notifications when the battery is calibrating before reaching 100%.
    • Improved charging time estimation.
  • Fixed a rare USB disconnect issue on the front USB-C outlets.
  • Resolved an issue that caused the vehicle to enter Limited Performance Mode and display incorrect Driver Assistance notifications on the driver display when the vehicle is shifted into Drive.
  • Reduced variations in volume between audio content formats.
  • Fixed an issue that displayed an incorrect “No media available here” message in media apps when shifting gears.
  • Improved locking and unlocking functionality:
    • If a passenger uses the rear display to unlock the vehicle while it isn’t parked, the vehicle now relocks itself after three seconds.
    • When the vehicle travels above 2 mph (3 km/h) the lock and unlock control isn’t available on the rear display.
    • When the vehicle travels above 7 mph (10 km/h) the lock and unlock control isn’t available on the center display.
    • Fixed a rare issue that caused the vehicle to proximity lock when a phone was on the center console.
    • Resolved a rare issue in which proximity locks were triggered by a paired phone disconnection despite the key not being near the vehicle.
    • Disable the global proximity lock/unlock settings now also disables press to unlock.
  • Improved vehicle wake-up behavior to reduce the time required to drive off.
  • Improved press-to-unlock functionality to reduce the chance of unexpected unlock events.
  • Improved press to unlock sensor detection.
  • Fixed an issue that mistakenly displayed a payment error message on the center display after a successful start of an AC charging session.
  • Fixed an issue that incorrectly displays the garage door opener prompt when the vehicle isn’t near that garage door.
  • Fixed an issue that displayed the incorrect number of 12 V outlets on the 12 V outlet graphic for certain vehicles.
  • Added a chime warning to notify you of objects next to the sides of your vehicle while you are parking.
  • When Pet Comfort is active, the center and rear display now provide instructions to temporarily enable the open door buttons if someone is locked inside the vehicle.
  • Enhanced comfort and performance of stop-and-go behavior and following behavior for Adaptive Cruise Control and Highway Assist.
  • Apple Music improvements:
    • The Explicit icon is now displayed in the Show More view and Artist view.
    • A subtitle for content is now displayed in the Show More and Artist view.
    • Fixed an issue that displayed an incorrect message of “no media here” as you typed in the Search bar.
    • Added a message to indicate that no content was found if there are no results for a search.
