Rivian R1T powered tonneau cover retrofits delayed to 2025
A recent update to Rivian's official website indicates that retrofits of the R1T's powered tonneau cover are now expected in 2025. The powered tonneau cover retrofit will be available for purchase through the company's Gear Shop.
The Rivian R1T has all the bells and whistles a driver would most likely want for a capable pickup truck. These include a powered tonneau cover, which conveniently protects items that are stored in the R1T's bed. In 2022, however, Rivian sent a notice informing its customers that the R1T's powered tonneau cover would be temporarily removed from production. At the time, the company stated that it would be upgrading the component.
Rivian would send a message to its customers in October 2023, stating that it had completed the in-field testing of the R1T's updated powered tonneau cover. The company noted then that, based on its tests, the updated powered tonneau was performing well in terms of durability.
As noted by Rivian on its official website recently, however, some R1T vehicles delivered today would be delivered without a powered tonneau cover once again. For these cases, the company noted that an appointment would be set for the installation of the component.
"You can now shop available configurations of R1T with powered tonneau covers that deliver in 1-6 weeks. In some cases, the vehicle will be delivered without the tonneau cover, and your installation appointment will be scheduled separately," Rivian wrote.
Rivian also noted that customers with an existing R1T without a powered tonneau cover would be able to purchase a retrofit for the component when it becomes available at the Gear Shop in 2025. Prior to this update, powered tonneau retrofits for the R1T were expected in "late 2024."
"If you currently own an R1T without a powered tonneau cover, you'll be able to purchase one when it becomes available on Gear Shop in 2025," Rivian wrote.
