Rivian formally launches The Good Project for qualified nonprofits

Rivian has formally announced The Good Project, an initiative that provides R1 vehicles to organizations that make a positive impact on communities. 

As noted by the electric truck maker in a Rivian Stories post, The Good Project makes an R1 vehicle available for qualifying nonprofit organizations in the Denver, Austin, Brooklyn, and Atlanta areas. The nonprofits would be able to borrow the R1 vehicles on a short-term basis through the program. 

“We can’t wait to see all the ways these vehicles will be put to work in support of the greater good, particularly on projects that aligns with Rivian’s mission to Keep the World Adventurous Forever,” Rivian noted in its post. 

Rivian also announced the first nonprofit that was able to borrow an R1 vehicle for its operations: the Billion Oyster Project, which is looking to restore oyster reefs to New York Harbor with the goal of bringing one billion oysters to the harbor by 2035. The nonprofit is also looking to rebuild marine habitat biodiversity and protect the city’s shorelines from storm surges. 

Rivian described how the Billion Oyster Project used its borrowed R1S for its activities. 

“Billion Oyster Project used their borrowed R1S for a huge variety of tasks in the week leading up to its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Billion Oyster Party, including a Coney Island community beach cleanup, water sampling across the five boroughs, towing a boat, and checking on and replacing oyster cages around New York Harbor,” the electric truck maker wrote. 

Nonprofits located in the Brooklyn, Denver, Austin, or Atlanta who are interested in borrowing an R1 vehicle for their activities could click here to apply for The Good Project’s short-term vehicle loan.
