Rivian exec provides context behind software performance issues

A recent interview with Rivian Chief Software Officer (CSO) Wassym Bensaid with Snazzy Labs has provided several updates on a number of topics that are currently catching the interest of R1 owners. The executive also provided an explanation behind recent software performance concerns that have been reported by customers. 

As noted by RivianTrackr, which provided a summary of Bensaid’s interview, the electric truck maker is determined to support its vehicles for as long as possible. This means that even with the Gen 2 vehicles now being produced, Rivian is aiming to “deliver the same level of features for both platforms wherever possible, avoiding obsolescence unless hardware limitations make it unavoidable.”

When asked about how recent updates have introduced some bugs that have adversely affected the user experience of R1 owners, Bensaid explained that the issues were caused by the complexity of supporting two platforms. That being said, Rivian is actively working on the issue, and an update with significant performance improvements is expected to be rolled out this week. 

“We are continuously refining the experience, ensuring both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles remain responsive and feature-rich,” Bensaid stated.  

Apart from addressing Rivian’s recent software issues, Bensaid also shared a number of updates and estimated release dates for several features. Google Cast, for example, is expected to be rolled out in update 2024.47, and it will support over 3,000 applications such as YouTube. Text-to-Speech Messaging is also expected to be rolled out by 2025.
