Rivian’s new camp kitchen will be available sooner than expected
Rivian showcased its new camp kitchen during a tour around the country to provide customers a closer look at the upcoming R2 and R3 electric vehicles (EVs).
YouTuber Brian Tong was invited to visit a Rivian space in Pasadena to check out the R2 and R3 vehicles. At the event, Tong spotted Rivian’s new camp kitchen design installed in the updated R1S SUV.
Rivian representatives at the event told Tong that the new camp kitchen design will be available to order in a week, starting at around $1,400.
Rivian’s new camp kitchen design vastly differs from the original but might be more affordable to produce. Rivian’s original camp kitchen design included almost everything a camper would need to cook a delicious meal outdoors, like durable plates, cutlery, and even a kitchen sink.
Rivian’s new $1,400 camp kitchen still provides a stovetop for campers to cook on, a table to prepare or cut ingredients, and a drawer for utensils and cutlery. It is significantly more portable than Rivian’s original camp kitchen, which was modules that could be placed inside the R1T’s gear tunnel. Unfortunately, the new design left no room for a functioning kitchen sink.
A few Rivian owners have already shared their opinions on the new camp kitchen, pointing out some design issues the company might consider in a future iteration.
“As an R1S owner, none of these ‘cook in your car’ solutions appeal to me. For example, we often enjoy bacon when camping—how long would it take for the smell of bacon to leave the car if you’re cooking on the tailgate?” commented Rivian Forums member KBabione.
