Rivian's 2024 Halloween Update: Everything You Need to Know

Rivian’s 2024 Halloween Update is expected to start rolling out to Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1T and R1S owners starting October 18, just a few hours from now. The electric truck maker certainly did not hold back this year, as the 2024 Halloween Update is chock full of goodies and treats that would surely delight Rivian owners and passengers alike.  

As noted in a recent Rivian Stories post, the 2024 Halloween Update is headlined by the addition of “Car Costumes,” which transform the R1T and R1S into either K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider or the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future. These Car Costumes feature special themes on the infotainment display, as well as exterior lighting and sounds for Gen 2 R1T and R1S vehicles. Rivian also bundled in a “Haunted Rivian” costume that provides drivers with spooky lighting and sounds for their vehicles. 

Rivian describes its 2024 Halloween Update’s Car Costumes as follows.

Knight Rider spotlight 

Knight Rider fans, get ready to engage turbo boost on your R1. You can now turn your Rivian into K.I.T.T. 

To set Knight Rider as your Car Costume, find the Get Spooky card on the main page of your Rivian Mobile App. You’ll select the Gear Guard dressed as Michael Knight to activate. From there, your interior display system will feature K.I.T.T.’s diagnostics on screen and play the original show intro music.  

For Gen 2 owners, the exterior lightbar will cascade a red beam just like K.I.T.T. and exude its iconic scanner sound effect, creating the ultimate Knight Rider experience. 

Back to the Future spotlight 

Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads! This Car Costume allows you to take a ride turning your R1 vehicle into everyone’s favorite Time Machine. 

In the mobile app, you’ll see Gear Guard dressed up as Doc Brown. By selecting ‘Time Machine’ as your car costume, you’ll see the interior screen show the iconic Back to the Future interface, as well as music and the Time Machine acceleration sound effect from the film. 

Ready to break through the sound barrier? Gen 2 owners can hit the 88mph button which will engage Back to the Future themed lighting and sound effects in the front and rear of the vehicle. 

Haunted Rivian spotlight

Want a different look? Hit Gear Guard dressed as a scarecrow to trigger our Haunted Rivian Car Costume through the mobile app. 

This Car Costume has eight different sound effects and three different color themes to choose from, ranging betweenpurple, yellow, red, and green. This will take over your interior display screen with static and ghosts. Gen 1 owners will get a green animation on the vehicle's exterior, and exclusively for Gen 2 owners, the exterior light bar will reflect whichever color option you choose from, for a frightfully fun experience. 

While Car Costumes are the headline of the 2024 Halloween Update, Rivian has also included a number of special easter eggs that R1 owners would surely appreciate. These include the much-requested Owl Chirp, which is now augmented with more spooky variants, as well as a fun pedestrian display feature that turns people into zombies and bicyclists and motorcyclists into headless horsemen. Drive Mode animations are also themed for Halloween.
