Rivian Listed As Most Satisfying Brand in J.D. Power APEAL Study

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study revealed something very interesting. As per the automotive data and analytics firm, owner satisfaction among non-Tesla battery electric vehicles is reaching an all-time high, and Rivian is leading the pack.

J.D. Power’s recent study noted that overall owner satisfaction among non-Tesla owners reached an impressive 877 points out of a 1,000-point scale. This is quite a milestone for non-Tesla vehicles as the Texas-based EV maker’s owner satisfaction was tracked at 870 points. As per J.D. Power, Rivian’s overall APEAL Brand Index Ranking was listed at 900 points.

“Across all fuel types, emotional satisfaction is highest among owners of non-Tesla BEVs (877), surpassing Tesla (870), owners of gasoline (842) and plug-in hybrid (841) vehicles. Tesla remains strong for satisfaction among its loyal buyers but is lackluster with conquest buyers. Newer BEVs are achieving higher APEAL scores due to improved battery range and better interior materials,” J.D. Power wrote in a press release

Overall, it would appear that in J.D. Power’s study, at least, Rivian owners proved more satisfied than Tesla owners. This doesn’t mean to say that Tesla owners are not satisfied with their vehicles, of course (a score of 870 is still very high), but it does suggest that Rivian owners are liking their R1 vehicles very much. It remains to be seen if Rivian can maintain these figures with the launch of the mass-market R2, but for now, the Rivian R1T and R1S definitely seem like they are meeting customers’ expectations

J.D. Power mentioned that non-Tesla BEVs seemed to have achieved higher APEAL scores due to improved battery range and better interior materials. While J.D. Power seemed to be referencing EVs from conventional automakers in its comment, such characteristics are true for Rivian’s vehicles. The R1T and R1S’ interior have been acclaimed by new and veteran EV owners alike, and the battery range of the 2025 Rivian R1T tops out at 420 miles per charge. Such a combination, when paired with Rivian's stellar tech and off-road prowess, definitely make the R1T and R1S very compelling for consumers.
